DESIGNER: Sara Ricciardi
ARTISAN: Silver Tre

Sara Ricciardi is one of the most talented and best-known members of the new generation of creatives in Italian. Born in Benevento in 1989, she lives and works in Milan. A multifaceted designer, she has studied in Milan, Istanbul and New York, graduating in 2015 from the NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti), in the department of Product Design, where she teaches today. Four years ago she opened a studio in Milan, where she designs products for companies and creates one-off pieces for galleries, performances, interiors and installations. Her approach is characterised by a profound exploration of the possibilities of narrative: each aesthetic result springs from a precise story. Extensive poetic and formal research is what underpins her method. Materials and processes are defined on each occasion with the aid of great exponents of the Italian crafts. Selected by Wallpaper as one of the finalist designers in its Next Generation series for 2018, she has worked with Visionnaire, Houtique, Coin Casa, Culti, Giorgetti and Luisaviaroma. Since 2019 she has been art director of the ‘La Grande Bellezza– The Dream Factory’ project for the Starhotels Group, a scheme of patronage for Italian high craftsmanship.

Silver Tre is a Milanese atelier that interprets everyday objects use with great savoir faire and creative freedom, always making them very original and special. Carlo Traviganti is an eclectic metal craftsman who inherited the sheet turning activity from his father Riccardo  and together with a team of collaborators give life to the most disparate creations, creating home accessories and furnishings in brass, aluminum, iron, bronze, silver…studying and experimenting new techniques in an ever-changing vision that blends the bond of the Made in Italy artisan tradition with the new needs of the workplace and the home. The workshop works with important architects and designers and very often for the theatre: it has created stage structures for the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and a rich production of metal props, especially for period films.

The piece is a fascinating reinterpretation of important historic elements connected with the territory of the Samnites. An invitation to a forgotten ancient rhythm, that of pagan rituals linked to the earth and their magical formulas. A musical box with rotating roots and a light, it is set in motion by moving a piece of obsidian, twirling its shadows and reawakening that sense of rhythm and joy in order to make its roots dance again in the vigour of tradition and its evolution.
